NIROS was founded in 1966 by Gorm Niros. The products were at that time based on pagers for
firemen and analogue radios. Gorm Niros sold the company in 1993 to Henning Schmager.

Product development ensured that Niros could expand the analogue product programme with the IS radio (Intrinsically safe – ATEX approved) targeted for use in surroundings of inflammable and hazardous materials where maximum protection against accidental detonation is required.

NIROS are producing professional radios under its own brand and has since 1994 also been an OEM supplier to some of the world's largest producers of telecom equipment.

In 2002, Hans Damm acquired 50% of NIROS, and in 2003 he acquired the remaining 50% from Henning Schmanger - Hans Damm owned NIROS Telecommunications A/S by 100%.

In 2004 NIROS was sold to TC Connect AB who owned the company until 2007 where it became part of Radius Group.
